§ 123. Mr. de Freitasasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, as representing the Lord President of the Council, how much public money is spent each year on research into the prevention and cure of disease in pigs.
Mr. AmoryAt present about £160,000 a year is spent on pig research by the Agricultural Research Council and my Department. I regret that it is not possible to say how much of this sum represents work on the prevention and cure of disease, since subjects such as, for example, nutrition, housing and breeding have all an important bearing on animal health.
