Mr. Leeasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the weekly wages of the employees of the Malayan Airways, which is to be taken over by British Overseas Airways Corporation, who went on strike during the week of 24th December for bonuses totalling $1,000,000; and what has been the result of the strike.
§ Mr. ProfumoWeekly wages range from about the equivalent of three guineas to just over £29. The strike was called off on 14th January at the request of the Minister of Labour and Welfare who is appointing a Court of Inquiry to investigate the dispute and to make recommendations. It is not intended that British Overseas Airways Corporation should take over Malayan Airways.
