§ 120. Mr. Donnellyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is yet in a position to make a statement regarding Her Majesty's Government's investigations into the possible exploitation of the oil-bearing tar sands of Alberta.
§ Mr. MaudlingI have been asked to reply. I understand that the Canadian Department of Mines is conducting experiments on the extraction of oil from these sands; in addition, commercial interests have been carrying out investigations. My information is that it has not yet been established that oil can be recovered at an economic price.
