HC Deb 27 February 1957 vol 565 cc167-8W
55. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a further statement to the House in respect of the Egyptian conflict and, in particular, the position in the Gaza strip; and what further information he has in respect of transport through the Suez Canal.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

On the Arab-Israel dispute and the future of the Gaza strip, I would refer the hon. Member to the statement made on 25th February by the Prime Minister in reply to the right hon. Member for Easington (Mr. Shinwell).

On transport through the Canal, I am informed that the United Nations Secretariat still expect the Canal to be cleared according to schedule by 10th March. A representative of the Secretary-General is in Egypt at present, and a further report is expected.
