80. Mr. Hale

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department to state for the period of twelve months to the most recent convenient date for which figures are available the number of male and female prisoners committed to one of Her Majesty's Prisons to serve sentences of less than six months' imprisonment.

During 1955, 13,244 men and 1,499 women sentenced to serve up to and including five months' imprisonment were received into prison.
