HC Deb 26 February 1957 vol 565 c150W
65. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what is now his Civil Defence advisers' estimate of the number of people who may have to be evacuated in the event of war; and the areas to which they are to be evacuated.

Mr. H. Brooke

The proposal which my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and I have under discussion with the local authority associations involves planning for the evacuation of the priority classes totalling some 12 million persons. I am not at present in a position to give any further details.
