HC Deb 25 February 1957 vol 565 c129W
93. Mr. Page

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what protests have been made by the United Kingdom to the United Nations organisation concerning the refusal by Egypt to permit the United Nations salvage fleet in the Suez Canal to remove the tug "Edgar Bonnet" from the navigable waters of the canal.

Mr. Ian Harvey

Mr. Katzin, of the United Nations Secretary General's staff, is visiting Egypt to discuss the progress of clearance work. In the absence of a full report from the United Nations a protest would not be appropriate.

Meanwhile, I am informed by the United Nations that General Wheeler has not modified his estimate of 10th March for the opening date of the Canal.
