HC Deb 21 February 1957 vol 565 c92W
83. Dame Irene Ward

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance if, arising out of the award of the new age allowance to war pensioners, he will introduce legislation to end the discrimination whereby National Assistance payments are reduced accordingly, thus denying the age benefit to the less well off.

Miss Pitt

I think my hon. Friend is under a misapprehension. There is no such discrimination as she suggests. My right hon. Friend has no proposals at present for legislation on the subject of National Assistance disregards, which at present, I think properly, give an appreciable preference to war pensioners.
