HC Deb 21 February 1957 vol 565 cc98-100W
Mrs. Hill

asked the Minister of Health what steps are being taken to improve the status and recruitment of skilled radiographers, having regard to the preponderant rôle of diagnostic X-rays in causing background radiation, revealed by Command Paper No. 9780, and to the fact that it is on the skill of trained radiographers in adequate numbers that the reduction of unnecessary radiation from X-rays most depends.

Mr. Vosper

The salaries of radiographers have recently been increased and their grading structure improved following an award of the Industrial Court. I am asking hospital boards for up-to-date information about the staffing of radiography departments and the annual intake of students to radiography schools. In the light of this information, I shall consider what further steps may be necessary to improve the recruitment of radiographers.
