HC Deb 21 February 1957 vol 565 c81W
46. Mr. Lewis

asked the Prime Minister whether, as several years have now passed since the Select Committee reported on Members' salaries, and many changes have taken place in the cost of living and the expenses incurred by Members in carrying out their duties to the State, he will now move to appoint a Select Committee to see to what extent the previous Report should be amended or brought up to date.

The Prime Minister

No. I do not think a Select Committee would help us in finding the right answer to this problem.
