HC Deb 20 February 1957 vol 565 c62W
47. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Paymaster-General, as representing the Lord President of the Council, what recommendations the recent researches of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, have produced on the dangers of radiation leakage from ships propelled by nuclear energy by radiation of the surrounding seas; and if he will state the effect of such recommendations on the use of nuclear energy for the propulsion of ships as a practical proposition.

Mr. Maudling

One of the papers presented to the Conference held at Harwell last October on Nuclear Ship Propulsion concerned safety aspects, including radiation problems, and these continue to be studied: but no recommendations have yet been made on this subject.
