HC Deb 20 February 1957 vol 565 c76W
93. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he is taking to ensure that the recruitment of Civil Defence volunteers receives sufficient priority in our emergency preparations.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Regulations under the Civil Defence Act, 1948, place upon local authorities the function of recruiting divisions of the Civil Defence Corps. This is a continuing duty, in performing which the Corps authorities have the guidance and encouragement of my department and the Scottish Home Department. A national Civil Defence Week to aid recruiting was held as recently as last October.
