HC Deb 19 February 1957 vol 565 cc59-60W
Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for War how many officers of the rank of brigadier and upwards there now are in the Army; and by how much that number has risen or fallen since last July.

Mr. Hare

There are now 537 officers of the rank of brigadier or above on the active list. This is one more than the figure given by my predecessor in answer to a similar Question by the hon. Member on 10th July last year. There is, however, a true reduction of eleven because fourteen officers are now on leave pending retirement, whereas there were only two last July.
