HC Deb 19 February 1957 vol 565 c46W
84. Mr. Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give an assurance that any increase in the ultimate cost of the Forth road bridge over the currently estimated £14,300,000 will be borne wholly by Her Majesty's Government.

Mr. Maclay

As indicated in the statement which I made on the 29th January in reply to a Question by the hon. Member, the local authorities and the Government will contribute £500,000 and £4,650,000, respectively, to the approved cost of the bridge and the balance will be advanced by the Government by way of loans which will be repayable from the proceeds of tolls.
