asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education what arrangements have been made in the conditions and numbers of the award of State scholarships for academic year 1957–58.

The conditions and numbers of State scholarships for the academic year 1957–58 are unchanged except for the introduction of State studentships for advanced postgraduate study in arts subjects and for an increase in the number of technical State scholarships offered from 150 to 225. I am sending the hon. Member particulars of the State studentship scheme.
