HC Deb 14 February 1957 vol 564 c207W
65. Mr. Edward Evans

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is aware that the amount of money from the Exchequer devoted to research and development for United Kingdom fisheries fell during the current financial year by £168,872 from the amount spent during the previous year; and whether, in view of the necessity for more research, he will take the necessary steps to ensure that adequate resources are available in the immediate future for further research and development in fisheries production.

Mr. Amory

The provision for 1955–56 was higher than that for the current financial year because of the inclusion of £242,000 for new research vessels and laboratory buildings against £57,000 this year. If these exceptional capital expenditures are excluded, the provision for 1956–57 shows an increase; and I am satisfied the amount is adequate to needs.
