HC Deb 14 February 1957 vol 564 c210W
77. Mr. Ross

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the increasing unemployment in the engineering industry in the West of Scotland; and if he will make a statement on this situation.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I am aware that there has been some increase in unemployment, most of which is due to the completion of new vessels on the Clyde and is expected to be temporary. I understand that a number of redundancies are likely to occur shortly at two firms in the area, one making aircraft and the other motor vehicles.
