Dr. Bennett

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty if he will enumerate the establishments, buildings, lands and properties held by his Department within the boundaries of the borough of Gosport, together with the purpose for which they are held; and which of these properties were acquired by his Department later than 1936.

The following is the list of Admiralty establishments, etc., within the Borough of Gosport:

Acquired prior to 31st December,

  • R.N. Aircraft Repair Yard. Fleetlands.
  • H.M.S. Raedalus, R.N Air Station, Lee-on-Solent.
  • Boom Defence Depôt adjoining Clarence Yard.
  • Oil Fuel Depot, Forton Road.
  • Admiralty Experimental Establishment, Haslar.
  • R.N. Hospital, Haslar.
  • H.M.S. Hornet, Coastal Forces Base, Haslar.
  • H.M.S. Dolphin, Submarine Base, Fort Blockhouse.
  • H.M.S. St. Vincent including Fort Road Recreation Ground—Boys' Training Establishment.
  • Royal Marine Small Arms School, Browndown.
  • Royal Clarence Victualling Yard.
  • R.N. Armament Depôt, Priddy's Hard including Hardway White—Oil Installation.
  • R.N. Armament Depôts, Frater, Bedenham and Elson.
  • Admiralty Police Quarters, Lees Lane and Clayhall.

Held by War Department prior to 31st December, 1936, but occupied by Admiralty later than

  • Gosport Ex. R.N. Air Station part being sold to Gosport Corporation for housing sites, part being developed for Naval Married Quarters, Wardroom Block used by Admiralty Interview Board, H.M.S. Sultan New Entry Training Establishments in other buildings.
  • Admiralty Signal Stations—small site adjoining Fort Monckton and certain buildings within Fort Gilkicker.

Acquired hr Admiralty later than

  • Hardway Depot—comprising one Romney Store Shed and berth for L.S.T. (H.M.S. Sultan training).
  • R.N. Physiological Laboratory, Clayhall Road.
  • R.N. Medical School, Monckton House (grounds being developed for Naval Married Quarters).
  • The Haven, Alverstoke, Gosport—residence for Flag Officer, Submarines.
  • Coppers, Alverstoke. Gosport—residence for C.O., R.N.A.R.Y., Fleetlands.
