HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 cc146-7W
Mr. Langford-Holt

asked the Minister of Defence to what extent British bases are being made available for the operation of the United States Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean; and to what extent the British Government is to be consulted as to the operation of this fleet from British bases.

Mr. Sandys

Certain facilities are made available from time to time by the Royal Navy to the United States Sixth Fleet, in accordance with the practice normally followed between the navies of friendly powers. However, the fleet is not based upon British territory. Therefore, the second part of the Question does not arise.
