HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c129W
Mr. McKay

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware of the new pension scheme that is to apply in West Germany, whereby 60 per cent. of earnings will be paid as a pension up to a maximum pension of £9 per week; and whether he will take steps to introduce a similar insurance scheme for this country.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I have been asked to reply.

I am aware of the new pensions scheme in the Federal Republic of Germany, which has many interesting features, some of which I had the opportunity of discussing with the Federal German Minister of Labour on his recent visit to this country. This scheme, which is highly complex, is designed for the circumstances existing and the previous arrangements ruling in the German Federal Republic, and I do not think would be necessarily suitable or feasible for adoption in this country.
