HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c130W
100. Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Paymaster-General what steps have been taken recently, or are to be taken, to prospect for oil in any part of the United Kingdom and under the English Channel.

Mr. Maudling

Survey parties in search of oil and natural gas are at work in the North Midlands, Yorkshire and Lancashire and test wells are being drilled or will shortly be started in these areas. Small-scale surveys were recently made off-shore in the Robin Hood's Bay, Weymouth Bay and Isle of Purbeck areas.
