HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c116W
72. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he has any further statement to make in respect of the situation in Korea, in the light of the United Nations responsibilities.

Mr. Ian Harvey

On 11th January, 1957, the General Assembly adopted by 57 votes to 8, with 9 abstentions, a resolution reaffirming the United Nations' objectives in Korea and urging that continuing efforts be made to achieve these objectives. The United Kingdom delegate voted in support of this Resolution.

In his speech in the First Committee, Sir Pierson Dixon, the Permanent United Kingdom Representative to the United Nations, said: Our task is now to ensure that the Armistice is to remain in force until it is superseded by a general political settlement; and to establish a unified, independent and democratic Korea by peaceful means.
