HC Deb 11 February 1957 vol 564 c119W
36. Sir W. Anstruther-Gray

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will give the names of the eight war criminals in British custody at Werl; and how much longer it is proposed to detain them.

Mr. Ian Harvey

The names of the war criminals held in British custody at Werl are Karl Heuer, Wilhelm Opretzka, Karl Winkler, Erich Willinski, Gustav Rennecke, Wilhelm Katerndahl, Hans Kũhn and Hans Olschewski. Assuming full remission of sentence for good conduct, Heuer will be released at the end of this month, four others in May and June. The remaining three are due for release in 1958 but the Mixed Board set up under Chapter 6 of the Bonn Settlement Convention reviews these cases at intervals and may recommend their earlier release.
