HC Deb 04 February 1957 vol 564 cc9-10W
100. Viscount Hinchingbrooke

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs when he estimates that last obstructions will be removed from the Suez Canal; and what plans are being made to pilot medium British tankers through thereafter.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

For the United Nations timetable of clearance work in the Canal, I would refer the hon. Member to the second report of the Secretary-General issued on 10th January, a copy of which is available in the Library. The latest information I have from the United Nations is that these operations are up to schedule.

The practical arrangements for passing shipping through the Canal when it is re-opened are under discussion.
