36. Mrs. McLaughlin

asked the Minister of Health what was the infant mortality rate in 1955 and the neo-natal mortality rate in the same year; and how these compared with former years.

Mr. Vosper

The infant mortality rate in 1955 was 25 per 1,000 live births. The neo-natal mortality rate was 17 per 1,000 live births. The comparable figures for 1950 were 30 and 19, respectively. The following are the detailed figures:

The maternity mortality rate in 1955 was 0.64 per 1,000 live and still births. For 1950, the comparable figure was 0.87. The following are the detailed figures:
