143. Mr. G. Longden

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied with the conditions under which animals are exported to the Continent for slaughter; and what he proposes to do to improve them.

150. Mr. J. Eden

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why he still allows shipment overseas of live animals for slaughter.

Mr. Godber

I would refer my hon. Friends to the reply given to my hon. Friend the Member for Newbury (Mr. Hurd) on 31st January.

149. Mr. J. Eden

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what were the conditions under which cattle were shipped on the s.m. "Helene Clausen" which sailed from Hull for Calais where it arrived on 19th January; and why, of the 187 beasts, 100 had no opportunity to drink for 48 hours.

Mr. Godber

My right hon. Friend is making inquiries and will write to my hon. Friend as soon as possible.
