§ 146. Mr. J. Edenasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he conducted an inquiry into the amount of biscuits and cakes bought by British housewives; and what was the cost and outcome of this piece of research.
§ Mr. GodberBiscuits and cakes are included in the National Food Survey, which is a continuing inquiry. The latest annual results, up to the end of 1955, indicate weekly household expenditures24W per head of 8¾d. and 7¾d. respectively. Together biscuits and cakes accounted for 5¼ per cent. of household food expenditure. The cost of the Survey cannot be apportioned among individual foodstuffs.
