HC Deb 04 February 1957 vol 564 cc29-30W
Mr. Body

asked the Minister of Labour how many persons in the new town of Basildon were registered as unemployed at the last available date; and how many were registered as unemployed 12 months previously.

Mr. Iain Macleod

Persons living in the new town estates of Basildon register, when unemployed, at Pitsea Employment Exchange. At 14th January there were 278 persons registered as unemployed at Pitsea, of whom about 100 lived in Basildon. The total number registered at Pitsea in January, 1956, was 157, but it is not possible to ascertain how many of them lived in Basildon.
