§ Mr. J. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the population figures of Zanzibar and Pemba, respectively; and whether he will provide for increased representation in the Zanzibar Legislative Council for the island of Pemba.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydEstimates put the present populations of Zanzibar and Pemba islands at approximately 160,000 and 120,000, respectively. Of the twelve Representative Members of the Zanzibar 75W Legislative Council, Pemba has four members, two elected and two nominated. Having regard to all the circumstances, I consider that at present Pemba interests are adequately represented.
