HC Deb 17 December 1957 vol 580 c56W
Mr. Hunter

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether he has now given further consideration to the new Park Lane Improvement Scheme; and if he will make a further statement.

Mr. Watkinson

I am most anxious that we should not under-insure against future traffic density at this most important junction and I was impressed by the strong support from both sides of the House for the construction now of both tunnels of the under-pass to provide for two lanes of traffic in each direction. I will, therefore, consider with the L.C.C. whether we ought to provide for four lanes of traffic in two tunnels from the beginning rather than at a later stage.
