HL Deb 17 December 1957 vol 206 cc1279-80WA
LORD BARNBY

asked Her Majesty's Government if they will state the existing differences, if any, between import purchase prices and prices for same on release to United Kingdom consumers of main categories of manufactures of jute.

LORD MANCROFT

The bulk of the Jute Control's imports are composed of 40 in. 10 oz. 40 in. hessians. The average landed ex-warehouse United Kingdom price of these hessians over the past two months was 71s. 4d. per one hundred yards. The Control's selling price, excluding delivery charges, was 93s. 6d. The corresponding prices for 45 in. 11 oz. 45 in., the second main category of imported hessians, were 79s. 6d. and 103s. 7d. Imports of jute yarn are sold at the purchase prices, with a small addition for Control overheads and contingencies.

House adjourned at seven minutes past seven o'clock.
