HC Deb 17 December 1957 vol 580 c56W
Dame Irene Ward

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, instead of reducing the two free warrants home per year for the British Army of the Rhine, he will seek to obtain equal economies by reducing the number of forms to be filled in, and establishing a system which would permit those serving and due for leave to know well in advance when it is due, notify their homes and draw their pay.

Mr. John Hare

The reduction was made in order to save hard currency. Leave rosters are maintained in units and soldiers are given as much notice as possible. They receive pay and allowances before departure. We are always seeking to avoid unnecessary paperwork and form-filling in Army administration.
