§ 1. Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Presirent of the Board of Trade if he is aware that dressed granite from India and South Africa is admitted to Britain free of duty, that it is so admitted from countries whose standards of living are lower than the standard of living in Britain, that such granite is sold in Britain at prices much lower than the prices at which Aberdeen granite can be sold in Britain, that this militates against the granite trade in Aberdeen, and that these conditions have imposed unemployment in that trade in Aberdeen; and what steps he is taking to rectify this matter.
§ Sir D. EcclesLike most other goods, dressed granite is admitted free of duty from the Commonwealth. The Government are not proposing to change this traditional policy.
