§ 77. Mr. Gurdenasked the Minister of Works whether he will place the Government-held buildings in Ashley Street and Benacre Street, Birmingham, which have recently been vacated by the Ministry of Pensions and National Insurance, at the disposal of the local authority for the purpose of relieving the housing shortage until they are again required by the Government.
§ Mr. MolsonThe site is owned by the Birmingham Corporation and the lease to the Ministry of Works provides for demolition of the existing buildings on surrender of the land. Apart from some buildings on a small portion of the site which are being retained for Government purposes until 1962 by agreement with the Corporation, the work of demolition is in hand and the site will be surrendered to the Corporation in March next.
