HC Deb 02 December 1957 vol 579 cc6-7W
69. Mr. Redhead

asked the Minister of Health whether he will make a statement as to the outcome of his further investigations into the shortage of radiographers in the hospital service; and what positive steps he now proposes to take to remedy the situation.

Mr. Walker-Smith

I am aware of the shortage and I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Wokingham (Mr. Remnant) on 11th November. The salaries of radiographers were substantially increased and their staffing structure improved a year ago and, in order to improve recruitment, I have recently authorised hospital boards in certain circumstances to pay training grants to student radiographers.
