HC Deb 02 December 1957 vol 579 c15W
88. Mr. Nabarro

asked the Paymaster-General what estimate he has made of the fuel saving which would result if old and inefficient gas and electric heating appliances in domestic premises were replaced by up-to-date appliances such as heaters working on the convector principle.

Mr. Renton

In the case of gas fires, a saving of up to one-third for the same amount of useful heat. I have no information about the number of inefficient gas heaters installed or the extent to which they are used. There would be no saving in the case of electric fires since these are 100 per cent. efficient.
