HC Deb 02 August 1957 vol 574 c293W
Mr. Willey

asked the Minister of Labour what progress he has made regarding the revision of the safety regulations in the shipbuilding and ship-repairing industry, and in particular with regard to their extension to cover work-people employed on ships in wet dock.

Mr. Iain Macleod

A preliminary draft of new Regulations under the Factories Acts covering shipbuilding and ship-repairing work in wet docks and harbours, as well as shipbuilding yards and dry docks, has been published. Extensive comments on it have been received from the trade unions, the employers' federation and other interested organisations. These comments have been studied and are being discussed with the organisations concerned. The task is a substantial one involving consideration of much detail but progress will be made as rapidly as possible.
