asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware that substantial sums in cash have been made available through foreign banks in London by a foreign Power to assist illegal picketing and other forms of illegal and violent action during the recent omnibus strike; and what action he has asked Scotland Yard to take in the matter.

The greatest proportional increase was in the group of offences classified as violence against the person, and the next largest proportional increase was in offences of breaking and entering. The following table gives the figures for 1955 and 1956.

The following table gives an analysis by age groups of the number of persons found guilty of indictable offences in 1955 and 1956.
