HC Deb 17 April 1957 vol 568 c210W
Mr. H. Fraser

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he now proposes taking to bring the law relating to salmon and freshwater fishing in England and Wales into line with present conditions and requirements.

Mr. Godber

After considering representations which have been made to him, my right hon. Friend has concluded that it would be appropriate to survey the existing salmon and freshwater fisheries legislation, and he has therefore decided to set up a Committee with these terms of reference To review the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Acts, 1923–35, and their operation, taking into account the provisions of the River Boards Act, 1948: and to make recommendations.

He has invited the Hon. B. L. Bathurst, Q.C., to act as Chairman of the Committee, and I am glad to inform the House that he has accepted. The membership of the Committee will he announced as soon as possible.
