57. Mr. Brockway

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will make a statement on the results of his recent discussions with the Prime Minister of Malta.

As announced in the joint communiqué issued at the conclusion of the recent discussions in London, satisfactory progress was made on the constitutional side, but the Prime Minister of Malta was unable to agree to the principle underlying the proposed economic arrangements. Mr. Mintoff returned to Malta to consult his colleagues and has promised to inform my right hon. Friend of the outcome.
