HC Deb 11 April 1957 vol 568 c149W
Mr. Stanley

asked the Minister of Labour whether, as in previous years, he will suspend the call-up of agricultural workers during the harvest period.

Mr. Iain Macleod:

Yes. After consultation with my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, I have arranged for the call-up of agricultural workers to be suspended for a period of fourteen weeks during this year's harvest time. The dates will vary according to the needs of the different areas and will be determined later in the light of the position in each area.
