HC Deb 10 April 1957 vol 568 c129W
85. Mr. Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the next steps he proposes to take in the pacification of the Island of Cyprus.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I gave the hon. Gentleman a full reply to a Question by him on this point after my statement on 28th March. Since then, certain relaxations of the Emergency Regulations have been made, and some other steps taken by the Governor with a view to creating conditions favourable to a peaceful settlement.

Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in view of the comparative peace in Cyprus since the release of Archbishop Makarios, if he will now follow this by summoning a constructive, representative and authoritative peace conference on the relevant subjects in Cyprus or London.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I refer the hon. and learned Member to my reply to a Question on this point after my statement on 28th March.
