§ Sir L. Plummerasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what proposals have been made by the Governments of Uganda, Tanganyika, and Kenya to attract agricultural workers from Ruanda Urundi; and what are the rates of pay proposed for these workers.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydThe Kenya Government are not for the time being proceeding with their proposed scheme to recruit a limited number of agricultural workers from Ruanda Urundi. Under long-standing arrangements with the Belgian 121W authorities, some employers in Tanganyika and Uganda recruit labour from Ruandi Urundi on three-year contracts mainly for agricultural work; I am asking the Governors concerned whether any further proposals are under consideration.
