HC Deb 10 April 1957 vol 568 cc126-7W
72. Mr. Awbery

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what was the amount spent on the police force in Singapore for the years 1955–56 and 1956–57, respectively; and what proportion of the total budget for each year these amounts represent.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Actual police expenditure for 1955 was approximately £2,650,000 and represented 11.46 per cent. of Singapore's total expenditure for that year. Certified figures are not available for 1956, but the police budget for that year and for 1957 is approximately £3 million. This represents, respectively, 10.91 per cent. and 9.96 per cent. of the Colony's budget for those two years.
