§ 65. Mr. Doddsasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies, in view of the increasing hostility of Spain to Gibraltar, if he will make a statement indicating what action is being taken to ensure that industry in Gibraltar is kept moving and to protect the welfare of Gibraltarians.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydProgress is being made with the developments of which I informed the hon. Member in my reply on 7th December, 1955. The housing programme, with assistance from the colonial development and welfare fund, is proceeding according to plan. There has been marked expansion in the tourist industry, and in trade generally. Though Spanish frontier restrictions have continued, the volume of imports into Gibraltar was nearly £2 million more in 1956 than in 1954, with a corresponding increase in public revenue.
