§ Mr. Lennox-BoydForty-eight hours, of which eight are paid at overtime rates. The working week at other mines and large quarries varies between 44 and 46 hours.
80. Mr. Leeasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will inquire into the practices obtaining to prevent workers at the Cyprus Mines Corporation who so desire being represented by their trade union; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydIt is the policy of the Cyprus Government to encourage the formation of trade unions and the creation128W of collective bargaining machinery. But the Cyprus Mines Corporation does not recognise any trade union and the Government have no power to intervene. The Corporation has, however, established consultative committees to which the workers' representatives are elected by secret ballot.
