§ Mr. SandysThe Chiefs of Staff Committee is composed as follows:—
- Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir William Dickson, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence (Chairman).
- Admiral of the Fleet the Earl Mountbatten of Burma, First Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Staff.
- Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer, Chief of the Imperial General Staff.
- Air Chief Marshal Sir Dermot Boyle, Chief of the Air Staff.
- Its function is to advise Her Majesty's Government on matters relating to defence. The Chiefs of Staff are not appointed for a fixed period.
