HC Deb 10 April 1957 vol 568 c136W
100. Mr. Blenkinsop

asked the Postmaster-General what the effect of the latest increase in telephone charges has been upon the number of calls made.

Mr. Marples

The latest increase was the raising of the charge for a local call from a coin-box telephone from 3d. to 4d. on 1st January, 1957. It is not possible to say what effect this has had on the traffic, but the number of all local calls is about 5 per cent. less than a year ago.
