HC Deb 09 April 1957 vol 568 c108W
Mr. Brockway

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations the number of Africans in Basutoland, Bechuanaland and Swaziland, respectively, who are employed in the higher grades of the Civil Service in their respective territories; and what opportunity they have for training and promotion to administrative posts.

Mr. Alport

There are 11 Africans in the Senior Service of Basutoland, 2 in the Senior Service of Bechuanaland and 2 in the Senior Service of Swaziland. Of these, one in each territory is an administrative officer and the others occupy posts of equivalent rank in other branches of the Government Service.

African members of the Senior Services have the same opportunities as their European colleagues for training and promotion.
