Controlled maximum prices of the 1¾ lb. loaf in the United Kingdom, remote areas excepted 1st January, 1951–7th April, 1951 5½d. 8th April, 1951–15th March, 1952 6d. 16th March 1952–25th February, 1956 7½d. 26th February, 1956–29th September, 1956 8½d. Control over the maximum prices of bread was withdrawn as from 30th September, 1956, when the bread subsidy was abolished.
